Memorial Day 2023

[BREVARD, N.C., April 27, 2023] – The City of Brevard announced its upcoming Memorial  Day event, which will take place on May 29, 2023, to honor the sacrifices made by our brave servicemembers. The American Legion will host this year’s ceremony, which promises to be a  memorable and meaningful tribute to those who have given their lives in service to our country.

The Day of Remembrance Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on the front lawn of the  Transylvania County Courthouse on East Main Street. The ceremony will feature keynote  speaker Colonel Richard Bennett, US Army (Ret), who will pay tribute to those who made the  ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation. While a parade is not part of the celebration, the event will include a wreath-laying ceremony, a presentation of colors, a recognition of Gold Star  families, and a moment of silence to honor our fallen heroes.

“Memorial Day is a special day in the heart of every American,” said Mayor Maureen Copelof. “It is a day to remember and honor the brave servicemembers who gave their lives for what we  cherish most: our families, our freedom and our liberty. May we never forget the price of the  freedoms we enjoy and may we honor the fallen and embrace in our hearts the families who  sacrificed so much. Please join us Memorial Day morning and as a community remember our  heroes.”
