HOB Grant Program

Duke Energy Hometown Revitalization Grant

Awarded funds are designed to provide micro grants to businesses in the Heart of Brevard with a focus on beautification projects enhancing the appearance of the business and downtown district. Project examples include pressure washing buildings, exterior painting, facade repair, signage, public art projects outdoor expansion, etc. Learn more here.

Downtown Redevelopment Fund

This is a new N.C. program that awards $300,000 – $500,000 for projects in underutilized buildings that need updates to meet various codes and requirements.

State Historic Tax Credits

These are state tax credits for appropriate restoration of historic properties, and properties within the downtown commercial historic district.

Federal Historic Tax Credits

These are federal tax credits for appropriate restoration of historic properties, and properties within the downtown commercial historic district.

Main Street Solutions Fund

This fund awards up to $200,000 for each chosen downtown project in N.C. and is based on job creation and retention.  This is also competitive and funds are limited each year.

Façade Design Assistance

Required Permits for New Businesses

Opening a new business in Brevard? The City of Brevard & surrounding Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) have permitting requirements to open a new business. A Change of Use or Change of Occupancy Permit is required along with a zoning permit for any construction. Related signs for the new business are regulated too through the Unified Development Ordinance implemented by the City of Brevard in 2006. Effective July 1, 2015, privilege (business) licenses are no longer issued by the City of Brevard, with the exception of a taxi business and a business that sells beer and/or wine. To obtain a license for a taxi business or for the sale of beer and/or wine, contact the City Clerk’s Office at 828-885-5614.

Please call the Brevard Planning Department at (828) 885-5630 if you need to obtain a permit for your new business or for your new signs.
