Heart of Brevard (HOB) announced plans for Arts in March, celebrating local arts and culture in downtown Brevard, March 27-28, 2021. After a hiatus in 2020 due to COVID-19, the annual event returns for its third year.
“Spring is a wonderful time to experience the local creative scene, explore downtown Brevard lined with diverse local businesses and even play outside,” shared Nicole Bentley, Executive Director with the Heart of Brevard.
Arts in March kicks off on Saturday, March 27 from 10:00am-5:00pm. This year’s event will incorporate local musical acts as part of the programming. Local musicians will perform downtown at The Plaza on Broad Street and at the House on Main Event Space throughout the day. “It is vital that our local music artists be presented the opportunity to display their creativity at Arts in March especially when the entire music industry has been effectively shut down for the last year,” said John Felty, Heart of Brevard Board Member and Mountain Song Productions.
Arts in March will celebrate the completion of the crosswalk mural installation located at Broad Street and West Jordan Street. This creative crosswalk designed by local artist Billy Smith depicts brook trout swimming beneath broken pavement and will provide a lively gateway to the Jordan Street District.
This year’s event includes the inaugural youth sidewalk chalk showcase on West Jordan Street from 10am-4pm. Local youth artists will create a sidewalk art using the theme, “Spring in Bloom” as inspiration.
On Sunday, March 28th the festivities continue from 12:00pm-4:00pm with self-guided walking tours of over 30 participating businesses.
Downtown Brevard has taken many safety measures and precautions due to the COVID-19 outbreak including the implementation of hand sanitizing stations in downtown and the creation of multiple, public outdoor dining areas. Please remember to keep fellow attendees and our community safe by wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing and frequently sanitize your hands. Participating studios and galleries will sanitize their space frequently, provide hand sanitizer and masks for attendees and practice social distancing at their businesses.
