Grants&Incentives

Supporting our Community

Heart of Brevard’s projects and grants are helping us grow the local economy, strengthen our community, and protect the history and culture that make our town unique. We offer grant opportunities through Heart of Brevard and assist businesses in finding additional funding sources at the state and federal levels.

HOB Vibrancy Grant

Heart of Brevard offers grants to businesses and property owners within the HOB district to support beautification and enhancement projects that improve the appearance of individual storefronts and contribute to the overall vitality of downtown.

Eligible projects include pressure washing, exterior painting, façade repair, signage updates, public art, outdoor expansions, awning renewal, and more. Grants may also support physical business expansions, historic preservation, and improvements that enhance ADA accessibility.

Priority is given to projects that create lasting, permanent improvements—such as non-branded awnings or structural repairs—that remain in place through changes in ownership. Each Heart of Brevard business may apply for one grant award per year.

If you’re interested in applying, contact Heart of Brevard.

Federal and State
Historic Tax Credits

Both federal and state tax credits can be provided for appropriate restorations of historic properties and properties within the downtown commercial historic district. For more information and to learn how to apply for these funds, contact Heart of Brevard.

UNCG Design Assistance

UNC Greensboro’s Center for Community-Engaged Design partners with the NC Main Street Program to place undergraduate and graduate interior architecture students—known as “Fellows”—in designated small towns across North Carolina. These Fellows provide design assistance on a variety of revitalization projects, including storefront façade rehabilitation, adaptive reuse of upper-story spaces (such as converting them into residential units), archival research using historic photographs and maps, and field documentation with schematic design proposals. We may be able to assist you through the North Carolina Main Street program. Contact Heart of Brevard.

NC Commerce Grants & Incentives

North Carolina’s targeted, performance-based incentive programs help companies and communities grow and thrive in our state. Through the NC Main Street Program and its partners, communities have access to a range of resources—such as design assistance, technical guidance, and revitalization grants—that support downtown development and historic preservation. These tools are designed to help Main Street communities strengthen their local economies, attract investment, and enhance quality of life. For more information, click here.
