How Can I Join?

Businesses and nonprofits must meet the following criteria to participate in the program.

The business must have private or cooperative ownership.
The business has a location within Transylvania County.
The business has less than 200 employees at Transylvania County locations.

If the organization is a nonprofit, it must have been granted a tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service and operated in Transylvania County.

Ambassador Special Designations

Businesses are marked with special designations to recognize independent, locally owned/operated, and nonprofit organizations.

Nonprofit Organizations

Independent Businesses / Organizations

Businesses and organizations in which the decision-making authority is free from outside control.
The business/organization has a limited number of outlets and geographic range.

Locally Owned / Operated Organizations

Businesses in which the decision-making authority is vested in local owners and not subject to conditions dictated remotely.
Have owners with over 50% controlling interest living in Transylvania County or one of the surrounding counties.

Nonprofit Organizations

Nonprofit organizations must be headquartered in Transylvania County or have a local board of directors.
The organization has been granted a tax-exempt status by the IRS.
Organizations in which the decision-making authority is vested with a board of directors or executive director.

Show Your Colors

Display the Think Local Transylvania logo on your website and in a customer-facing window or door of your brick-and-mortar location. We have complimentary posters and stickers available for you!

Share the Love

Follow @thinklocaltransylvania on Facebook and Instagram and share the page with your friends!

Post About It

When you officially join the movement change your profile picture and Facebook cover for a week to celebrate! Post about the program monthly and encourage others to join and support it. Make sure you post immediately to share how excited you are about joining!

Make a Pact

As an ambassador to the program, we ask you to support your fellow Transylvania County businesses and organizations by sourcing services and goods locally and supporting others in our community whenever possible.

Your Tools to Think Local

The Think Local Transylvania Tool kit is an excellent resource for program ambassadors and those considering joining. It includes the program’s mission, information on participation, program style guides, and tools for program ambassadors.

The virtual toolbox is also included and provides access to a downloadable program logo, a printable tool kit, social media materials, and more. Complimentary stickers and posters are available for ambassadors.
