Twilight Tour – 2009

Twilight Tour
“Christmas by the Campfire”
December 5, 2009 4:00-8:00pm

On Dec. 5th, the downtown streets of Brevard will be transformed into a magical world of holiday cheer during the Heart of Brevard’s 22nd Annual Twilight Tour.

Twilight Tour takes a turn back in time…join us this year for a “Christmas by the Campfire”…celebrating mountain traditions.

Instead of streets lined with vendors, each downtown block will have an open campfire. This will be a cozy place to huddle, in between “touring” the different downtown shops and restaurants for their holiday specials.

Around each campfire there will be places to sit to warm up. You can participate in a more traditional activity like marshmallow roasting, story telling, ornament making, singing, or watching a children’s Christmas movie. At each campfire there will also be some refreshments to help warm your toes.

The Courthouse lawn will be sparkling with lights. The sidewalks will glow in the light of 1000 luminaries, and school children and community choir musicians will gather at the courthouse gazebo to fill the evening air with holiday song.

Don’t forget to enjoy the courthouse lights and Christmas tree decorations at the Transylvania County Courthouse. Of course, you can’t miss the long-awaited visit with Santa Claus at My Favorite Season.

Those who want to begin the holiday spirit earlier in the day can join the Brevard Reindeer 5K Run at 9:00am, 175 runners came out last year! The race is sponsored by and benefiting The Center for Women. For more information on the race call 828.885.7785 or email.

Come and watch all the floats, fire trucks & emergency vehicles, and classic vehicles of the Christmas Parade at 3:00pm. This year’s theme is “Bluegrass Country Christmas.” For more information regarding the Christmas Parade, contact the Chamber of Commerce. 828.883.3700 or download the form and parade rules here.

This is also a special year celebrating the “50th Anniversary of the Aluminum Christmas Tree.” The exhibit takes place in the Transylvania Heritage Museum (Jordan Street) from November 27th – December. The only museum dedicated to vintage aluminum Christmas trees, the Aluminum Tree & Aesthetically Challenged Seasonal Ornament Museum (ATOM), will display a total of 50 vintage aluminum trees. Rare pink, green, blue, and gold aluminum trees up to seven feet tall are featured among the more traditional silver trees. Color wheels, revolving tree stands, and thousands of ornaments, ranging from handmade and hideous to wonderfully weird and classically kitsch-y, will round out ATOM’s display. The museum’s gift shop will give visitors a chance to take home a little piece of the aluminum tree era. Admission is free, proceeds benefit the Transylvania Heritage Museum. For more information call Brevard ATOM Curator Stephen Jackson, 828.884.5304 or visit their website.

Downtown Brevard invites you to join us for this magical evening organized by our shops and restaurants. It’s also a time to connect with some of our local community non-profits.

Come have Christmas the old-fashioned mountain way!

No dogs allowed on festival grounds, thanks!

  1. Great stuff. Perhaps a little off topic, but would you mind if I write something about this on my tomato plant blog? I will of course, cite original source and link back to your page.
