Dancing With Our Stars 2010 Contestants

Isaac allen & gillian hillman (Rumba)

Isaac Allen, a local real estate professional with Exit Mountain Realty, better known as the ‘curly headed realtor’, seen on local billboards and in the Real Estate magazines all over Western North Carolina.

Isaac is happily married to Janet Allen and has three wonderful boys, has been a happy Transylvania County resident for more than 20 years and feels fortunate to give back to the community through dancing.

Gillian started dancing in England at the age of 13.  At that point she was only allowed to dance the boy’s part with her sister.  After a year she graduated to dance with Doug, who remained her dancing partner until she turned 21.

Doug and Gillian took all their medals in International Smooth dancing—bronze, silver, gold, gold star, 3 gold bars, and the final Statuette.  Together they also took the bronze and silver exams in International Latin.

Gillian was an assistant dancing teacher in England.  When she arrived in America, ballroom dancing had died.  And not until 1990 did she take up dancing again.

Gillian now teaches at the county’s Park & Recreation Center.

2008 Dancing With Our Stars Champions

Dr. Mark Thompson is the owner of Brevard Animal Hospital and is the President of Brevard Little Theatre.

He has also played parts in several of BLT’s productions. Recently he portrayed the Ghost of Christmas Present in “A Christmas Carol” and was Mordcha in “Fiddler on the Roof.” It was in Fiddler that Kristen Pangle first attempted to teach Mark to dance. Mark also produced last year’s BLT Broadway Cabaret fund raiser and he will be directing it this year in September!

Known to his family as the “Frankenstein” of dance, he presents a special challenge to any choreographer.  Kristen should be admired for accepting such a daunting task for the third time. Keep in mind, these are the reigning champs from 2008’s Dancing With Our Stars.

Kristen Pangle is owner and director of Pisgah Dance Academy (PDA) located in Pisgah Forest. She has been dancing for 17 years, competing in National and World Competitions. Her accomplishments include: golds, gold graduate, gold with honors, as well as platinum recognition. She has competed in Jazz, Classical Ballet, Tap, Lyrical, Musical Theater Dance, and Country Western. She has choreographed in all phases of dance for the past 5 years. this includes choreographer for Brevard Little Theatre (BLT) productions of Charlotte’s Web, Velveteen Rabbit, Fiddler on the Roof, Winnie the Pooh, and Radio Gals.

Kristen loves working with her students at PDA, BLT, Transylvania Community Arts Council, as well as local fund raisers. She passes her love of dance, and the quality of the art along to her students with a conservative emphasis. Pisgah Dance Academy has 6 instructors teaching Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Modern, Kickboxing, Country Western, Ballroom, and Yoga. Pisgah Dance Academy offers classes in beginnner, intermediate and advanced for ages 3 to adult.

Glenn & Marty Ingram (interpretive ballroom fusion)

The Ingrams are a husband-and-wife team of naturopathic doctors practicing at Through the Woods Natural Health in Pisgah Forest.  Dr. Glenn is a native of Hartsville, SC while Dr. Marty hails from Anchorage, AK. They met while attending the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. They were quite new to Brevard when they attended last year’s Sweetheart Dance and were delighted to be invited to participate in this year’s Dancing with Our Stars.

The Ingrams began dancing together in the first year of medical school, which sparked a romance that later led to a wedding. They have now been happily married for over 2 years. Dancing took a back seat to studying for many years, but they always enjoyed getting out whenever possible. Dr. Marty donned her first pair of ballet slippers at age 6, but Dr. Glenn learned his dancing skills “on the fly” at the Viscount ballroom in Portland. Dr. Marty attended the BYU dance camp in Provo, UT with her ballroom-enthusiast mother, and was a member of the Blue Moon Dance Company in Boulder, CO for many years performing ballroom-inspired modern dance.

He is new to dancing, but loving it.

Carol Henderson has lived in this area since 1994. She has been dancing for about 18 years. Carol is currently employed by the U.S. Postal Service, working in the West Asheville area as a city letter carrier.
