I would like to enter your competition but there is no link for an application. Where is it?

    Best regards,
    Bill Long

  2. HOB says:

Applications are now available on our website: http://brevardnc.org/festivals/applications/ Thanks and let me know if you have any further questions.

  3. Heather George says:

The rules for the string band competition specify no drums. What about playing spoons, “bones” or (moonshine) jugs as part of a band?

  4. HOB says:

I have forwarded your question on to the organizers of the String Band Competition, Mary & Lo Gordon (Celestial Mountain Music). They will be in touch soon. Thanks!

  5. Mary Gordon says:

    Heather,
Spoons, bones, jugs (even washboards) aren’t drums, and are traditional in old time music to a certain extent, however they are far more prevalent in jug bands. We actually have had jug players in the past. The idea is that this is not a Celtic, bluegrass or commercial country music contest. Judges’ opinions vary, however, on their like/dislike of rhythm instruments in OT settings, and it is a subjective call. So the rhythm player should be playing at the skill level of the rest of the group, and not overpower or distract from the music, in order to receive high marks.
