Halloweenfest – 2012

Halloweenfest in Transylvania County! – October 27, 2012

Why wouldn’t you want to celebrate Halloween in Tran-syl-VA-nia county??! Even Count Dracula comes for blood…

Started by the Chamber of Commerce in 1982, Halloweenfest is celebrating its 29th year! Come downtown to enjoy a day-long street festival. For the sweet tooth, you can start your day off with the The Proper Pot Apple/Pumpkin Bake-Off and see who captures the judges’ favor.

The street festival begins at 10:00am and ends at 6:00pm. You’ll find plenty of fun for the entire family:  Tiny Tot Pumpkin Bowl, Bi-Lo Cookie Decorating, Face & Hair Painting, Ghoulish Golf, & Spooky Hay Maze!

Families can also compete in the Annual Costume Parade. Costume judging categories include:  Best Infant, Best Comic Character, & Best Storybook Character.

If you haven’t gotten enough of your sweets, join in the Downtown Trick-or-Treat. Walk by the downtown businesses and street vendors and receive your candies and treats.

The Brevard Rotary Club’s 29th Annual “Flight of the Vampire” 5K Run ends the day at dusk (5:00pm).

Don’t forget to check out the “Scarecrows on the Lawn,” on the lawn of the Transylvania Heritage Museum. Funny, scary, or clever! Create your own entry.

Halloweenfest also hosts, the 17th Annual Old Time Music Competition. Musicians can compete in: Junior Fiddle, Folk Song, Lap Dulcimer, Old Time: Banjo, Fiddle, & String Band, Mandolin, and Guitar. The Old Time String Band Competition takes place in the County Courthouse, beginning at 8:00pm. Concerning the music festival…

Do we have to preregister for the contests? If so, where do we get the registration forms and when is the deadline.

    Thanks,

Are you talking about the Old Time Music Competition? If so, yes you can pre-register. I can email you the application or mail it to you, just let me know your preference. You can also register on site, so the deadline is actually the day of the event – October 29th. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I would love to organize a Halloween Zumba flash mob to the song Thriller for Halloweenfest. Seems natural for Transylvania County! What do I need to do, or is this something that is at all feasible?

    Thanks!
