Go Nuts at the 10th Annual White Squirrel Festival: Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-26, 2013)
Voted one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events in May 2009, White Squirrel Festival is host to an opening “Memorial Day Parade,” 5K/10K foot race, White Squirrel Photo Contest, white squirrel tours, and plenty of nutty fun for the entire family.
Halloweenfest in Transylvania County! – October 27, 2012
We take Halloween seriously in Brevard. We are in Transylvania County after all! This is a truly family friendly festival with a costume contest, bouncy houses, and the Great Pumpkin Roll down Courthouse Hill. Last years’ event had some fun surprises including a flash mob dancing to Micheal Jackson’s Thriller. Surely, there will be some creative surprises this year as well.
The 17th Annual Old Time Music Competition will be held again this year during Halloweenfest. Applications ready early October.
No festival would be complete without music. And Brevard offers some of the best in mountain music when the downtown hosts the Old Time Music Competition. This competition attracts musicians as far as Florida who come not only to compete, but to share with their fellow musicians a musical form that will not be forgotten. Musicians can compete in several categories!
Come welcome the Oskar Blues crew to Brevard at their first official event in Western North Carolina – Saturday – October 27, 6:00-9:00pm (Halloweenfest – City Hall Block). Oskar Blues Brewery has teamed up with The Heart of Brevard to present the first “Osktoberfest” in North Carolina. This event will feature live music from Fifth House and The Fox Fire as well as family activities including a hay maze, pony rides and inflatable bounce castles. Oskar Blues will also be serving beer and bratwursts from their Hops & Heifers in Longmont, Colorado.
Come catch the hometown spirit – Both our Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks Show take place on July 4th.
Activities include: 5K/10K Firecracker Run, Fine Arts & Craft Showcase, All Star Pet Show, Declaration of Independence Reading, Memorial Flag Raising, Classic Automobile Show, Old Time Fair, day-long music, Kids’ Bike Parade, Hot Dog Eating Contest, inflatables, face painting, children’s activities and end the day with the wonderful July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza!
6th Annual Squirrel Box Derby – May 26-27, 2012 (Races begin at 1:30pm). Derby applications ready early April. Safety guidelines ready now!
This gravity race is the only legal opportunity in Brevard where you can try to break the speed limit down Jailhouse Hill! All vehicles are hand built and decorated to please the crowd, as well as designed for speed. Contestants compete for trophies. In addition, businesses fight to win the cherished Golden Nut Trophy!
